CONVERSATIONS WITH SRI SRI THAKUR: ALOCHANA-PRASANGE (SRI PRAFULLA KR. DAS): JULY, 1946: IMPORTANCE OF REGARD, VENERATION AND LOVE FOR AN ELEVATED PERSON; SOIL MUST BE CONGENIAL TO THE SEED; COMPONENTS OF SUPERIOR CONCEPTION

Mr. Tennyson, “The Muslim You spoke of was an ordinary man but his son became eminent. If this is possible then why should the question of cultivation of higher qualities arise in the context of hereditary evolution?”

Sri Sri Thakur, “Active admiration for and energizing interest in an elevated person begets elevation and it equally holds good both in the case of attainment of personal elevation and the transmission of hereditary qualities. Unlike others, the illiterate farmer had a great regard, veneration and love for and a tenacious leaning towards the judge. This indicates that he was endowed with elements that yearned for excellence in thoughts, words and deeds. Of course, if he had no deep concord with his wife and if she had no urge to pursue his wishes, then the son could not be so worthy.”

Mr. Das, “What is the harm if the wife is hereditarily superior?”

Sri Sri Thakur, “If the soil is compatible with the seed, then the seed sprouts well. What germinates is the seed and not the soil. If the soil is not congenial to the seed, then the seed does not sprout properly. Again, if the soil is too good for the seed then either the seed burns up or much of its property is wasted.”

Mr. Tennyson, “Our love should embrace both merits and defects and good and evil of people.”

Sri Sri Thakur, “We do not love merits and defects abstractedly but we love the person. If we love someone, we automatically think in terms of enhancing his welfare. We patiently try to do such things as are sure to multiply his merits and diminish his defects and eventually make him happy and fulfilled.”

A gentleman from Maldah came with a basket of mangos (fajit) grown in his garden.

Sri Sri Thakur was immensely pleased to see them and said in a jubilant voice, “Oh! Excellent mangos! Their smell, color and symmetry regale the mind. Don’t keep them here for long. Give them to Borobou.”

The gentleman’s feeling of exhaustion caused by his journey was wiped out in an instant. He became filled with joy and readily took the basket in his hand and quickly proceeded towards Sri Sri Boroma’s apartment.

Mr. Tennyson, “There should be some mutual dependence between the husband and wife.”

Sri Sri Thakur, “Mutual dependence cannot come about if the husband does not fulfil the wife and the wife does not nurture the husband. The more the husband is gifted with a superior caliber and a penetrating insight, the more exalted and blooming can he make his wife. Her admiration for her husband becomes greater as her being obtains superior fulfilment from him. She seeks to make him still greater by rendering service and nurture with a loving, regardful, enthusiastic urge. Thereby the husband also becomes vigorous. His distinctiveness unfolds progressively. An ordinary mathematician or writer or singer or someone else is likely to attain extraordinary excellence. The capacity of people gets atrophied without nurture. In family life the compassionate regard, encouragement and inspiration of the wife considerably kindles the life urge and efficiency of men. Superior caliber means superior conception. The conception again effectively improves through active adherence to the Ideal. So, a male, in order to be fulfilling, has to be devoted to the Ideal. Otherwise in the absence of higher tension and superior impulse his inner wealth is seldom nourished and cherished.”
