Q: Suppose one works a lot but doesn't meditate. What then?
THAKUR: Then I think it is difficult for the unsolved thoughts and impressions in the sub-conscious and unconscious states to be recognized and adjusted. This is why I feel the root of 'pineal' in English means 'the pinnacle of supreme knowledge' or supersensory perception.
Q: I've heard that a million years spent repeating these mantras won't bring a man to the pinnacle of supreme knowledge. Also, Christ has said: '.............. use not vain repetitions as the Gentiles do.........'
Thakur: Yes,yes. Because, think, there is no difference between the Holy Name and HIM Who has realized the Name. Ram, Krishna, Christ, Buddha......the Name connotes the entity of the Realized One. If He be not a true Master and if there be no real love or devotion to Him, then the Holy Name alone can't be fruitful. This is why it is said that a million years repeating the Name can't bring realization. Without devotion to the realized personality, it becomes mere vain repetition of empty phrases as Christ warned. Yet, this is also true: the exception Christ implied was proper repetition enjoined. For in the Lord's prayer He began '.........Hallowed by Thy Name......' And if we don't repeat it, how can it hallow us?

DIET PRESCRIBED DURING MEDITATION
During the repetition of The Name and Meditation, the nervous system becomes strengthened and it becomes more abler. The frequency of repetition shouldn't be increased suddenly. Rather it should be done gradually. Gradually, the nervous system becomes habituated. For maintaining peace in the nervous system, certain foods should be taken. Foods such as butter, milk, honey,
bananas etc. are good. Side by side, the Association (company)
should also be compatible. Repetition of Name makes the nervous system extremely sensitive just like a powerful camera, which is capable of catching the images of any minute object.

ALWAYS ENGAGE IN HOLY NAME
In our scriptures too, we find similarity to Thakur's views.
abhyasyogayukte na chetasa nanyagamina.
Paramam purusham divyam yati parthanuchintyam.
(Arjuna, he who with his mind disciplined through Yoga in the form of practice of meditation and thinking of nothing else, is constantly engaged in contemplation of God attains the supremely effulgent Divine Purusha.
