CONVERSATIONS
WITH SRI SRI THAKUR: DEEPA-RAKSHI: OCTOBER 13, 1956; PART 2: SO-CALLED
GREAT MEN VS. REALLY GREAT MEN; COLOR OF A ROSE; DEVICE TO STOP
EXPLOSION OF BOMBS
After this, discussion began on really great men and so-called great men. In this connection Sri Sri Thakur said, “When passionate crave is set in motion in the society many people move wearing a mask of greatness. They are so-called great men. They wear the current mask of the time. They try to hold an honest pose and rarely go to really great Personalities. But among them those escape who observe Dharma.
Mr. Hauserman, “How’s that?”
Sri Sri Thakur, “Only they can escape who possess real greatness. Lord Krishna was really great. He was the son of Vasudeba. He started His work with the help of a few milkmen. At last He took the side of the Pandavas. All the common people were with Him. But the big kings went to join with the Kauravas. The Kauravas refused to give the share of half of the kingdom to the Pandavas. Then the Pandavas begged for only five villages. But the Kauravas disagreed to hand over to them even the land measured on the point of a needle. Then the battle of Kurukshetra took place. In that fierce battle all the so-called great men got defeated. The same was the case with Lord Christ. He started His work with the company of a few fishermen. It is heard that Mary Magdalene previously could not tolerate Lord Christ’s mixing with those lower class people. Lord Ramchandra also faced the same situation. He used to move with monkeys and non-Aryans as His associates. When Ravana abducted Sita, Lord Ramchandra joined with them and rescued Sita. Those in Ravana’s troops who had sanity went to join the troops of Ramchandra. It was almost like the soldiers of Mao-tse-tung. All the soldiers of the country had allegiance to him. The then government sent their army to destroy Mao-tse-tung. But in the battlefield the army overturned the barrels of their guns, i.e. they began to fire at the enemies of Mao-tse-tung. The so-called rich men are wealthy rich men. Lord Christ has said about them, ‘It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.’ These persons never go to the Lord. They take Him as the leader of lower class people. But those lower class people are the common men of society.”
Mr. Spencer was silently attentive to these talks. Now he said, “A human being’s desire is to love somebody.”
Sri Sri Thakur, “A human being’s desire is to live and grow and that is the prop of existence. Those who do not hanker after this, do not obey Lord Christ in toto. They only follow those directions of the Lord that support their passionate crave. As for instance, many followers of Lord Christ commit divorce nowadays. They don’t like His commandment on this subject. They like Paul’s sayings because Paul has supported divorce.”
Now it is 9:30. Sri Sri Thakur remained silent for a while. Then looking at Kestoda He said, “You see, Kestoda, previously I used to think only of the bright side of people. I found no need to think of the dark side. I thought if I can flare up goodness in people, then all that is dark will go away automatically. But now the dark side of people afflicts me a lot.”
In the evening Sri Sri Thakur was talking with Dr. Arunaditya Mukherjee. In the course of the conversation He said, “Why is the color of a rose red? You may say that the rose can absorb all the colors in the rays of the sun, but cannot absorb redness. But why does this happen? If you can find out the cause it will be fundamental work. Let me say another point to you. Try to find out some device by which the explosion of bombs can be stopped. Any bomb, even if it is an atomic or hydrogen one, will become quiet as soon as it falls on the ground. There will be no explosion. If you can be successful, this will be a revolutionary invention, no doubt.” (End of conversation)
