CONVERSATIONS WITH SRI SRI THAKUR: DEEPA-RAKSHI: JUNE 13, 1953; PART 3: LAW; POLITICS; PERFECT DIET

Again came the discussion on law.

Sri Sri Thakur, “If we want to realize law, we have to realize ‘Bidhi’ (proper act of upholding). And to realize ‘Bidhi’, we have to realize ‘Bhidata’ (He Who upholds properly). ‘Bidhata’ is He Who upholds life and growth in the proper way. And ‘Bidhi’ is the action by which something is upheld. I mean this thing by law.”

Mr. Sahay, “ I have cultivated political law for a long time.”

Sri Sri Thakur, “In the word ‘politics’ we find the Sanskrit root ‘Pri’ which means to fulfil, to protect. The word ‘Pur’ is formed from ‘Pri’ and from ‘Pur’ came police and politics. So ‘politics’ is that which fulfils and protects existence.

After that Mr. Sahay changed the subject and asked, “You probably take the perfect diet. What is it?”

Sri Sri Thakur, “The normal perfect diet for a human being can be seen in Anandabazar (Common Kitchen of Satsang). The food supplied there consists of rice, soup or legumes and one vegetable curry. If one teaspoonful of ghee is supplied it is like a feast. And taking this type of diet at Pabna nobody died within a period of 20 years. But at last some people used to say that health will deteriorate by this type of diet. They collected men in their support and I was outvoted by them. They introduced a rich diet in Anandabazar. As a result a person died of black fever. Complaints came from different parts of Bengal questioning  what is the cause of death of a man in the ashram. But by eating the normal diet, like the one above, nobody faced death.”

Sri Krishna Prasanna Bhattacharya, “The children born to us, after we began to eat this diet, remember the affairs of their early childhood.”

Sri Sri Thakur, “Again, you see, they more or less love sweets.”

Thinking a while Sri Sri Thakur again spoke, “In the first part of his life a man should be presented to his spiritual guide. This was our ancient custom. It is very important for the modern age and should be introduced again.”

Mr. Hauserman, “What is the significance of ‘Churakarana’ (one of the ten customs to be observed by the twice-born)?”

Sri Sri Thakur, “Knowledge is acquired through regard. By ‘Churakarana’ the guardians prepared the boy to go to his preceptor. They used to say to the boy, ‘Your preceptor is a very good man. He loves you very much. You are to acquire knowledge from him.’ This was the family tradition....A family practices penance to achieve the goal. During penance our inter-cellular adjustment happens through love for the Acharya (spiritual guide).”

Now it was late and Mr. Baladeb Sahay took leave for the present with Mr. Hauserman. Sri Sri Thakur went to the bathroom.
