CONVERSATIONS WITH SRI SRI THAKUR: DEEPA-RAKSHI: SEPTEMBER 11, 1956; MOTHER’S CONCENTRICITY TO FATHER INDICATES NATURE OF CHILD; COMPLETING A TASK NONSTOP; DIVORCE
It is raining continuously since last Saturday with stormy weather day and night. Sri Sri Thakur is living inside Boral Bungalow. He cannot go out due to this bad weather. Everything is rather dull.
Sri Sri Thakur walked a few steps through the verandah in the morning and then took His seat on a bedstead.
At 9 A. M. the American brother-in-faith Don Luthman came to Sri Sri Thakur with Mr. Hauserman and payed his obeisance to Him. With a very sweet smile and in an affectionate tone Sri Sri Thakur asked, “Luth, are you well?”
Mr. Luthman replied joyfully, “Yes, yes.”
After that Sri Sri Thakur looked at me (Sri Deviprasad Mukhopadhyaya) and said, “Can you supply a notebook? I want to give it to Luth.”
Sri Sri Thakur kept His notebooks in the custody of Sri Prafulla Kr. Das. I went to Prafulla and brought one notebook and gave it to Sri Sri Thakur. Holding the notebook with His right hand Sri Sri Thakur touched it to His forehead and then gave it to Mr. Luthman who also took it with a pose of devotion.
Then after a few talks Sri Sri Thakur went to the bathroom.
In the evening people gathered around Him like bees around a honeycomb. Discussions were going on on different topics. In the course of conversation
Sri Sri Thakur said, “As is one’s energetic volition so is his materializing capacity.”
Sri Krishna Pr. Bhattacharya, “You used to say to us that one should not stop halfway if one determines to complete a task.”
Sri Sri Thakur, “I try not to do it as much as possible. Both valor and vigor are needed to accomplish a work. The father supplies virility and sprouting urge comes from the mother. The very nature of yours indicates your mother’s concentricity to your father. All the valor, vigor and virility of a person depends upon the depth of the concentricity of his mother towards his father. Again you see, the source of matter is mother—who measures. So I take the material world as motherial world. When you are married to a woman you, the husband and wife, are cleaved together and cannot be separated. But if after your marriage, your wife divorces you and marries another man, she carries your impression in her brain. Then after a few days, if she divorces her second husband and marries me, she carries more of an impression. Again, I shall not be able to believe that woman. As a result, she loses all the possibility of begetting good children. In this way a nation becomes weak and proceeds towards decay. That is why Lord Jesus prohibited divorce.
Mr. Hauserman, “But a great number of people go on committing this error.”
Sri Sri Thakur, “Errors may happen. But everything may be corrected by following the laws of marriage properly—though after a few generations. Still now you can find many families in your country or in England where divorce is absent. If 80 % of the people commit the mistake and 20 % are fine, this 20 % of people can set the nation on the right path. Still now if there are 20 % of women who do not commit divorce even if their husbands face death in war, and don’t even think of divorce and only know ‘I am his and his only’, then these 20 % of women can bring the other 80 % under their control gradually.”
After a little pause Sri Sri Thakur continued, “Among women those are superior who never commit divorce. Next are those who, though committing divorce, accept superior men instead of inferior ones and become coupled and cleaved to them. But this second group is inferior to the previous ones, And those who go on divorcing one man after another are of the third and lowest class. Among the Christians, the Roman Catholics do not commit divorce. I think they follow Lord Christ out and out. They say, ‘With all my faults I love you, my Lord’.
Everybody in the room was charged with this thought. A calm and solemn atmosphere prevailed. After some time Sri Sri Thakur wanted to take rest and we came out.
