CONVERSATIONS
WITH SRI SRI THAKUR: PRATUL-DIPTI (BY SRI MANILAL CHAKRABORTY):
TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 1961: PART 2: IAN STEVENSON M.D.: VIOLENCE VS.
NON-VIOLENCE; ADHERENCE, ALLEGIANCE AND SERVICE TO THE LOVE LORD; HUMAN
BEINGS ARE OUR WEALTH; IMPORTANCE OF LOVE
Dr. Stevenson (raising a different topic), “What is Your opinion on violence and war?”
Dr. Stevenson (raising a different topic), “What is Your opinion on violence and war?”
Sri Sri Thakur, “A person’s interest must be understood. One should love people. And that is not for individual interest but for the interest of all. I think whatever the situation needs must be done.”
Dr. Stevenson, “Well, should violence be answered with violence? Or should non-violence be applied?”
Sri Sri Thakur, “According to need, wherever an operation is needed, operate. And wherever medicine is needed, use that. Even the thief does not want to die. Everyone wants to live!”
Dr. Stevenson, “Should military force be answered with military force? Or should one immediately surrender to another? Thakur, what do You say?”
Sri Sri Thakur, “ You should act according to necessity. An operation for a patient must be done. An operation means violence. So I say to resist evil. Violence is needed in some special instances.”
Dr. Stevenson was very pleased and asked another question, “How should wise men live?”
Sri Sri Thakur, “They live by resisting what is detrimental to existence. And they hold firmly to two things: the power of resistance and the urge of life.”
Dr. Stevenson, “How precisely can one live?”
Sri Sri Thakur, “First of all one needs adherence, allegiance and service to the Love Lord!”
Dr. Stevenson, “What do you say about sharing wealth and property?”
Sri Sri Thakur, “Well, first of all, human beings alone are our wealth. From this everything comes. Everyone should make sure that his wealth is used for the being and becoming of himself and his environment.”
Dr. Stevenson, “Many people are starving in India. America is not starving. So America should give food and wealth to India.”
Sri Sri Thakur, “If there is love, then people will certainly do for others. I think that the tendency of existence is love.”
Dr. Stevenson, “I am extremely glad to speak with you. I am leaving today.”
Sri Sri Thakur, “I am also very happy, but My only regret is that you are leaving today.” After Dr. Stevenson left, Sri Sri Thakur said to us, “Was he wounded by My words?”
Main Chakraborty, “No, no, he was not wounded. He was happy.”
Sri Sri Thakur, “You did not speak well to Dr. Stevenson. Look up ‘psychiatry’ in the encyclopedia.”
I read from the book, “Psychiatry is a branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment and prevention of emotional, social and spiritual maladjustment. Its goal is to achieve greater individual and social maturity to enhance human satisfaction and happiness and to encourage constructive living.” (Encyclopedia Americana, Vol. 22, page 728)
Sri Sri Thakur, “Now make a note of this. And also note in separate books those writings which are either in support of My writings or similar to them.
I said, “Yes, I will.”
As it was time for Thakur’s evening meal, the devotees left quietly.
